Jennifer Garner was born on 17 April 1972 in Houston, Texas but was born to be raised in Charleston, West Virginia. Her dad, William John Garner, was a chemical engineer for Union Carbide. Patricia Ann Garner, the mother of Patricia Ann, taught at the local college. So that she could follow the footsteps of her father she graduated as a chemical engineer. Since she wanted to be an actress, she went to New York. The Broadway roles were accompanied by a job at a local restaurant. Her husband of the first time Scott Foley met her on the television show "Felicity," where she played a cameo. Garner was given her first major part with "13 going on thirty" the romantic comedy which was widely praised. She was a teen girl trapped inside the body of an adult. Garner chose Gary Winick to direct the film; they kept looking for new projects until Winick's death in 2011. Garner earned the honorary title of the artist ambassador in 2009 by Save the Children U.S.A. This includes the advancement of literacy, nutrition and early childhood education. Garner has been a member of the board for this nonprofit organization since 2014. She is a proponent of early learning for children. As an ambassador she visits often with the families who are part of Early Steps to School Success which is a program designed to guide parents on how to help young children to learn.
